Create tailored resume decks for each job application to maximize your chances of getting noticed.
What are Job-Specific Decks?
Job-specific decks (also called RoleDecks) are tailored resume presentations created for individual job applications. Unlike your primary deck, these decks:
- Are customized for a specific company and position
- Include a tailored cover letter for that role
- Have a unique URL:
yourname.roledeck.io/t/company/position - Can be easily shared with specific employers
- Include a tracking email address to monitor opens
- Allow you to create unlimited decks for different applications
When to Create a Job-Specific Deck
Create a job-specific deck when:
- You're applying to a specific job posting
- You want to tailor your resume and cover letter to a particular role
- You need a unique tracking email for that application
- You want to showcase specific experience relevant to the position
- You're sending a cold outreach email to a company
Creating Job-Specific Decks
To create a new job-specific deck, follow the steps in our Creating Your First Deck guide. The process includes:
- Clicking "New Deck" on your dashboard
- Entering the target company name
- Entering the position title
- Uploading your resume PDF
- Adding the job description (recommended)
- Writing or generating a tailored cover letter
- Creating the deck
Managing Multiple Decks
Your dashboard displays all your job-specific decks in an organized grid. Each deck card shows:
- Company Name - The target company displayed as a colored pill badge
- Position Title - The role you're applying for
- Tracking Email - The forwarding email address for this deck
- Creation Date - When the deck was created
- View Link - External link icon to open the deck
- Action Buttons - Edit, duplicate, or delete options
Deck Actions
View Deck
Click the external link icon on any deck card to open it in a new browser tab. This lets you see exactly how your deck appears to employers.
Edit Deck
Access the deck editor to modify content, update your cover letter, change images, or adjust styling. Changes are saved automatically.
Duplicate Deck
Quickly create a copy of an existing deck. Perfect for applying to similar positions at different companies. The duplicate will have a new URL and tracking email.
Delete Deck
Remove a deck from your account. This action is permanent and will make the deck URL inaccessible. Use with caution.
URL Structure
Each job-specific deck has a unique URL that follows this pattern:
https://yourname.roledeck.io/t/company-name/position-title/For example:
https://johndoe.roledeck.io/t/vercel/senior-software-engineer/The company and position are automatically converted to URL-friendly slugs (lowercase, spaces replaced with hyphens).
Tracking Emails
Each deck gets a unique forwarding email address (e.g., deck-12345@roledeck.io). This email:
- Forwards all received emails to your registered email address
- Tracks when someone opens the email (if the deck link is clicked from the email)
- Helps you organize responses from different applications
- Allows you to see which companies are responding
Use this tracking email when applying through job boards or company application systems.
💡 Pro Tip
Use the duplicate feature to create similar decks for similar positions. This saves time while still allowing you to customize each deck for the specific company and role.
